Vetter Stone Plaza Completed; Minnesota River Outline, Changing Lighting Featured

The Vetter Stone Plaza was nearly two years in the making, and the recent completion of the River Wall — with colorful lighting of the artwork “River Wall” by Mankato native Greg Mueller — has eliminated fears by some city leaders that the backside of the new $28 million Grand Hall would be, well, butt ugly.
With the addition of the lighting at the end of September, City Council members have expressed their appreciation for the improved aesthetics brought about by the plaza project — a joint venture between the Vetter Stone Co., which supplied the limestone valued at more than $250,000; Mueller, who fashioned the steel and acrylic representation of the Minnesota River; and Twin Cities artist Korrin Lohmann, who created a trio of imaginative river-bridge-themed benches for the plaza.
